As you browse Instagram or TikTok, you’ve likely seen the phrase “link in bio” in a caption. This trend started on Instagram as a response to the platform limiting link posting to a profile’s bio section. Online creators build their profiles to feature a link-in-bio page that shares key links. By clicking on the link-in-bio, users can quickly access key information about the creator and view more of their content.
A link-in-bio page is an accessible and engaging way of laying out page elements. Think of it as a central hub for your online activity. Bio landing pages perform consistently well, no matter the type of artist or business using them. Below are some examples of bio link pages for musicians, artists, and online shop owners.
By adding multiple links to your link-in-bio page, you can send people from TikTok or Instagram to wherever you’d like, including a personal website, blog, online shop, or other social media profiles. However, a good landing page is much more than just a list of links.
Many creators see their link-in-bio page as a digital business card. It’s a way of introducing themselves to their audience and showcasing more of their work or brand. A customized, stylized bio landing page creates a strong first impression and instantly captures a user’s attention.
Why should I have a links page?
If you are building your online presence, a link-in-bio page will do a lot of heavy lifting for you. Connecting your digital profiles across channels onto one page is quite useful, but that’s only the beginning.
You can also feature videos, images or posts as a showcase on your link-in-bio page. This is a great way to bring attention to your current projects, or to those products that deserve a spotlight. Ecommerce sellers or online shop owners can integrate online stores within a page to streamline the shopping experience and drive more sales.
Website or links page?
There are quite a few reasons to use bio landing pages over personal websites. One upside is the difference in cost. A link-in-bio page can be cheaper to create and maintain compared to a full website. Time to set up is another difference. If one page can do what you want, there’s no need to build out a full website. For social media creators that want to be as concise as possible, the extra space afforded by a website may even be off-brand.

How to add a link to your Instagram bio
This is very easy to do and should take less than a minute. Just launch the Instagram app and follow these steps:
- Tap on your profile picture on the bottom right, then tap on Edit profile
- Select Add Link from the list of options, then Add external link
- Now you can punch in the URL directly, and give it a title if you’d like
Instagram also gives you the option to add a Facebook link in the bio, alongside your website. To do this, just follow the steps above, but select Add Facebook link instead.
If you decide to go with multiple links, make sure your primary link stays on top! You’ll need to go to the Links page, tap the three dots on the upper right and select the Reorder links option. The link at the top of the list will have increased visibility in your bio.
How to add a link to your TikTok bio
The process is quite similar to the process for Instagram. However, your TikTok account will need to have over one thousand followers for you to add a link to your profile.
If you meet this condition, switch to a business account to make your bio link clickable. You can do that by opening your TikTok app and following these steps:
- Tap on your Profile on the lower right corner of the screen.
- Tap on the three lines in the upper right corner, then select Settings and Privacy.
- Tap on Account at the top of the list, and then select Switch to Business Account.
- After that you only need to pick a category that best describes your brand, and then you’re set!
Now you’re ready to edit your bio directly. To do so, go to your account and click on Set up profile. The Website field should show up if you’ve followed the steps above.
Just put your link in there and you’re all set!
