CONTEST SUMMARY
Build an interactive website with no code! Create an original project in Hatch highlighting your unique approach to interactive web design. Projects will be judged based on creativity, originality, user experience, and overall artistic impression.

To participate in the Contest and submit an Entry, you must agree to these Official Rules (the “Rules”). Therefore, please read these Rules prior to submitting an Entry to ensure you understand and agree to these Rules. You agree that submission of an Entry in the Contest constitutes your agreement to these Rules. These Official Rules form a binding legal agreement between you and the Sponsor with respect to the Contest.
SPONSOR
The presenting sponsor of this Contest is Playful Software, Inc. dba Hatch, located at 1904 3rd Ave, Suite 910, Seattle, WA 98101, United States (“Sponsor”).
IMPORTANT DATES
The Contest starts at 12:01 Pacific Time, February 12, 2024, and ends at 11:59 PM Pacific Time, February 29, 2024 (“Contest Period”). All entries must be received by 11:59 PM Pacific Time, February 29, 2024.
WHO CAN ENTER
The Contest is open to individuals residing in the United States and other countries where this Contest is permitted by applicable law. Void in Guam, Puerto Rico, and where prohibited by law.
To be eligible to participate in the Contest, entrants must be age 18 or older (or the age of majority in their jurisdiction of residence if higher than 18) at the time of Entry submission.
Employees of Sponsor or Sponsor’s subsidiaries and affiliated companies, advertising and promotion agencies and their immediate family members are ineligible. Sponsor’s agents and/or independent contractors and their immediate family members are also ineligible. The term “immediate family member” includes spouses, grandparents, parents, siblings, children, and grandchildren.
HOW TO ENTER
The person who owns the email address associated with the Entry is deemed the “Entrant.”
To enter, Eligible Entrants must: (1) sign in to, or create a Hatch account on https://hatch.one/; (2) create one or more original webpages on the Entrant’s Hatch account; and then (3) complete the online submission entry form located at https://hatch.one/designchallenge or https://team.hatch.one/designbuddies for each webpage Entrant wishes to submit to the Contest. If more than one webpage is submitted, each webpage that meets the requirements under these Rules constitutes an “Entry.” There is no limit to the number of Entries per Entrant.
Each Entry must be submitted in one of the following categories: (1) Personal portfolio; (2) Rube Goldberg-style machine; or (3) Interactive space. Please see the “Description of the Contest” section above for more details about each category.
Each Entry must include at least one of the following Hatch features: (1) draggable elements; (2) physics effects (gravity, collisions); (3) animation (triggers, dynamic elements); (4) on-canvas drawing with Hatch’s native Draw tool; (5) remixable for others to modify; or (6) Hatch’s AI code generator or visual scripting interactions.
Each Entry must be in keeping with Sponsor’s image and may not be profane, offensive, pornographic, defamatory or inappropriate as determined by Sponsor in Sponsor’s sole discretion. Sponsor reserves the right to disqualify any Entry it deems to be not in keeping with Sponsor’s image, in Sponsor’s sole discretion.
Each Entry must be the original work of the Entrant, and may not infringe upon any third-party proprietary rights, intellectual property rights, industrial property rights, personal or moral rights or any other rights, including without limitation, copyright, trademark, patent, trade secret or confidentiality obligations, and may not violate applicable U.S. law. If the Entry contains any material or elements that are not owned by the Entrant, and/or which are subject to the rights of third parties, the Entrant is responsible for obtaining, prior to submission of the Entry, any and all releases and consents necessary to permit the use and exhibition of the Entry by Promotional Entities and their respective designees in the manner set forth in these Official Rules. Entries that do not comply with this section of the rules SHALL be disqualified.
Any Entry that does not comply in all material respects with the Official Rules or that otherwise contain prohibited or inappropriate content in Sponsor’s sole discretion will be disqualified, and/or not considered for prizes.
By submitting an Entry, Entrant agrees that Sponsor and its designees may use, publish, adapt, modify, combine, or dispose of any Entry, or elements of any Entry, online, in print, film, television, or any other media now or hereafter without additional compensation or notification to, or permission from, the Entrant, except as prohibited by law.
Sponsor shall not be responsible for lost, stolen, late, illegible, incomplete, damaged, or misdirected entries; server unavailability; or computer or any other electronic or telecommunications malfunction.
ELIMINATION
Any false information provided within the context of the Contest by any participant concerning identity, mailing address, telephone number, email address, ownership of right, or non-compliance with these Official Rules, may result in the immediate elimination of the participant from the Contest. The Sponsor further reserves the right to disqualify any Entry that it believes in its sole and unfettered discretion infringes upon or violates the rights of any third party, otherwise does not comply with these Official Rules, or violates U.S. or applicable state or local law.
WINNERS SELECTION AND JUDGING CRITERIA
One (1) Gold Winner (“Hatch Gold Winner”), one (1) Silver Winner (“Hatch Silver Winner), and one (1) Bronze Winner (“Hatch Bronze Winner”) will be selected by a panel of six judges chosen by Sponsor. All decisions of the judges are final and binding.
The following criteria are what the judges will use to evaluate each Entrant’s Entry: creativity (25%), originality (25%), user experience (25%), and overall artistic impression (25%).
The winners will be notified on or around Monday, March 4, 2024, and announced on or after Tuesday, March 5, 2024. Each Entrant agrees to be bound by the Official Rules, and the decisions of the judges are final in all matters relating to this Contest.
PRIZES
One (1) Hatch Gold Winner will be chosen and will receive a $1000 USD Amazon Gift Card.
One (1) Hatch Silver Winner will be chosen and will receive a $500 USD Amazon Gift Card.
One (1) Hatch Bronze Winner will be chosen and will receive a $300 USD Amazon Gift Card.
Amazon.com, Inc. and its affiliates are not associated with the Contest in any manner.
No substitutions for any prize will be allowed, except that Sponsor may award a different prize of equal or greater value for any reason. Prizes are non-transferable. Void where restricted or prohibited. Each Entrant is limited to one prize per person, household, and/or email address.
Winners are solely responsible for all taxes and/or fees arising out of the receipt or use of a prize. Winner may forfeit any prize if verification cannot or has not been made within thirty (30) days. Upon proper verification, the prize will be awarded via email to the email address used for submission of the winning Entry within seven (7) business days.
WINNER NOTIFICATION
Each winner will be notified by email and must provide a copy of government-issued picture identification to claim their prize. Sponsor reserves the right to require and examine additional identification and may choose to accept or deny awarding the prize based on the identification presented.
Each winner will be required to complete a release and affidavit prior to acceptance of any prize.
By claiming a prize, winner authorizes the use, without additional compensation, of his or her name and/or likeness and/or voice/photograph and municipality of residence for promotion and/or advertising purposes in any manner and in any medium (including, without limitation, radio broadcasts; newspapers and other publications; television or film releases; slides; videotape; distribution over the Internet; and picture date storage) the Sponsor may deem appropriate.
To obtain the name of the Winners of the Contest, within 3 months following the end of the Contest, send a separate, self-addressed, stamped envelope to Playful Software, Design Challenge Contest Winners, 1904 3rd Ave, Suite 910, Seattle, WA 98101, United States.
ADDITIONAL RULES
EXCEPT WHERE PROHIBITED BY LAW, ENTRANT AND SPONSOR AGREE THAT ANY AND ALL DISPUTES, CLAIMS, AND CAUSES OF ACTION ARISING OUT OF, OR CONNECTED WITH, THE CONTEST OR ANY PRIZE AWARDED SHALL BE RESOLVED INDIVIDUALLY, WITHOUT RESORT TO ANY FORM OF CLASS ACTION, AND EXCLUSIVELY BY THE APPROPRIATE COURT LOCATED IN THE STATE OF WASHINGTON, USA.
All issues and questions concerning the construction, validity, interpretation and enforceability of these Rules, and Entrant’s or Sponsor’s rights and obligations in connection with the Contest, shall be governed by, and construed in accordance with, the laws of the state of Washington without giving effect to any choice of law or conflict of law rules (whether of the State of Washington or any other jurisdiction), which would cause the application of the laws of any jurisdiction other than the state of Washington.
EACH OF SPONSOR AND ENTRANT HEREBY WAIVE THEIR RIGHT TO JURY TRIAL WITH RESPECT TO ALL CLAIMS AND ISSUES ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THESE RULES AND THE CONTEST, WHETHER SOUNDING IN CONTRACT OR TORT, AND INCLUDING ANY CLAIM FOR FRAUDULENT INDUCEMENT.
Sponsor is not liable for any lost or stolen Entries, prizes, or submitted information.
By participating in the Contest, participants agree to be bound by the decisions of Sponsor personnel. Sponsor reserves the right to disqualify any participant or winner and may refuse to award any prize to a person who is ineligible or has violated these Rules, gained unfair advantage in participating in the Contest, or obtained winner status using fraudulent means. Sponsor will interpret these Rules and resolve any disputes, conflicting claims or ambiguities concerning the Rules or the Contest and their decisions concerning such disputes shall be final. If the conduct or outcome of the Contest is affected by human error, any mechanical, technical, electronic, communications, telephone, computer, hardware or software errors, malfunctions or failures of any kind, intentional interference or any event beyond the control of Sponsor, Sponsor reserves the right to terminate this Contest, or make such other decisions regarding the outcome as Sponsor deems appropriate. All decisions will be made by Sponsor and are final. Sponsor may waive any of these Rules in its sole discretion.
Sponsor reserves the right not to award any prizes if none of the Entries received meet the stated contest criteria, in Sponsor’s sole discretion.
Sponsor takes no responsibility and assumes no liability for any omissions, acts or damages that may result from the preparation of materials to submit to this Contest.
INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS
By submitting an Entry, the Entrant hereby grants to Sponsor and its affiliates, subsidiaries, licensees and assigns, an irrevocable, perpetual and royalty-free right to use, reproduce, edit, display, transmit, prepare derivative works of, modify, publish and otherwise make use of the materials or other information submitted by Entrant, in any and all media, whether now known or hereinafter created, throughout the world and for any purpose, including without limitation for the promotion, advertising, and marketing of Sponsor and its products and services. The rights granted to Sponsor include, but are not limited to, the right to resize, crop, censor, compress, edit, feature, caption, affix logos to, create images or videos of, and to otherwise alter or make use of the submitted work.
By submitting an Entry, entrants thereby represent and warrant that the submitted work or information does not and shall not infringe on any copyright, any rights of privacy or publicity of any person, or any other right of any third party, and the entrants affirm they have the right to grant any and all rights and licenses granted to Sponsor herein, including but not limited to, all necessary rights under copyright, free and clear of any claims or encumbrances.
Entrants acknowledge and agree that the Sponsor shall have no obligation to post, display or otherwise make publicly available any work submitted by the entrant, and may, in their sole and unfettered discretion, remove, edit, modify or delete any work that the entrant submits.
WAIVER OF LIABILITY, RELEASE OF CLAIMS AND AGREEMENT TO INDEMNIFY
BY SUBMITTING ANY ENTRY, ENTRANT, ON BEHALF OF ENTRANT AND ENTRANT’S HEIRS, SUCCESSORS AND ASSIGNS RELEASES, FOREVER DISCHARGES AND COVENANTS NOT TO MAKE A CLAIM AGAINST OR SUE THE SPONSOR, OR ITS PARENTS, SUBSIDIARIES, AFFILIATES, LICENSEES, EMPLOYEES, OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, REPRESENTATIVES, SUCCESSORS AND ASSIGNS, AND INSURERS (COLLECTIVELY “RELEASED ENTITIES”), OF AND FROM ALL MANNER OF ACTION OR ACTIONS, CAUSE OR CAUSES OF ACTION, AT LAW OR IN EQUITY, SUITS, CLAIMS, DEMANDS, LIABILITY, LOSS, COST OR EXPENSE, OF ANY NATURE WHATSOEVER, KNOWN OR UNKNOWN, FIXED OR CONTINGENT, WHICH ENTRANT MAY HAVE OR HEREAFTER HAVE AGAINST THE RELEASED ENTITIES BY REASON OF ANY INJURIES OR DAMAGES ENTRANT MAY SUSTAIN, WHETHER TO ENTRANT’S PERSON, PROPERTY, REPUTATION, OR OTHERWISE, AS A RESULT OF, INCIDENT TO, OR RELATED IN ANY WAY TO THE ENTRY, THE CONTEST, OR THE USE, INCORPORATION OR EXPLOITATION OF THE ENTRY FOR ANY PURPOSE DESCRIBED HEREIN. ENTRANT WAIVES AND FOREGOES THE RIGHT TO SEEK INJUNCTIVE RELIEF AGAINST ANY OF THE RELEASED ENTITIES IN CONNECTION WITH THE ENTRY, THE CONTEST, OR THE USE, INCORPORATION, OR EXPLOITATION OF THE ENTRY FOR ANY PURPOSE. ENTRANT AGREES TO RELEASE, INDEMNIFY, AND HOLD HARMLESS THE RELEASED ENTITIES FROM AND AGAINST ANY LIABILITIES, LOSSES, CLAIMS, DEMANDS, COSTS (INCLUDING, WITHOUT LIMITATION, REASONABLE ATTORNEYS’ FEES) AND EXPENSES SUFFERED OR INCURRED BY THE RELEASED ENTITIES ARISING IN CONNECTION WITH ENTRANT’S PARTICIPATION IN THE CONTEST AND RECEIPT AND USE OR MISUSE OF ANY PRIZE.
